Tadoba, officially known as the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, is one of the 54 tiger reserves in India and one of the largest and oldest national parks in Maharashtra. Located in the Chandrapur district, it spans approximately 3,750 square kilometers and is famous for its rich biodiversity and a significant population of Royal Bengal Tigers. Tadoba is a natural habitat where visitors can experience tigers in the wild, making it a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers.
The reserve, which is situated in the Vidarbha region of eastern Maharashtra, features 24 safari gates for entry, providing ample opportunities for jungle safaris. Apart from tigers, the park is home to a variety of other wildlife species, including leopards, sloth bears, Indian bison (gaur), spotted deer, and numerous bird species. The scenic landscape includes dense forests, grasslands, and lakes.
The name 'Tadoba' comes from a local Gond king, "Taru Ba" or "Taru," revered by the local tribal communities. The name "Andhari" refers to the Andhari River, which flows through the forest. Historically, this area was ruled by the Gond tribes, whose descendants are now commonly seen working as guides in the reserve.
Tadoba is located about 35 km from Chandrapur and 155 km from Nagpur, which is the nearest airport, making it relatively accessible for visitors. The Indian government protects this forest to ensure the preservation of its natural habitat and wildlife.

The first step is to reach Nagpur, which is the nearest major city to Tadoba. You can either take a direct flight from Mumbai to Nagpur (approximately 1.5 hours) or travel by train, which takes around 12-14 hours.

Travel to Nagpur:
- By Flight: Take a morning flight from Mumbai to Nagpur that arrives by 9:00 am to ensure you can participate in the afternoon jungle safari on your first day in Tadoba.
- By Train: You can also opt for an overnight train to Nagpur from Mumbai. Here are some recommended trains:
  - NAGPUR DURONTO (12289): The train departs from CSMT at 8:15 pm and arrives Nagpur at 7:20 am.
  - VIDARBHA EXPRESS (12105): Departs from CSMT at 7:00 pm and arrives in Nagpur at 8:55 am.
  - SEVAGRAM EXPRESS (12139): Departs from CSMT at 3:00 pm and arrives in Nagpur at 6:00 am.

Transfer from Nagpur to Tadoba:

After reaching Nagpur, you can take a pre-arranged car (Innova or Dezire) with trusted drivers to Tadoba National Park. The journey takes approximately 4 hours. On the way, enjoy local breakfast delicacies like Saoji Tarri Poha or Tarri Samosa. You can also make a stop at Anandvan if you wish.

This period is the most comfortable for visitors.
The weather is cool, so there's no need for air conditioning.
Tigers are often seen walking on the roads, providing great opportunities for head-on photo shots.

October: Prepare for Humidity

The weather is humid, so booking an air-conditioned hotel is recommended.

April to June: Hot but Rewarding

The weather is very hot, and tigers are usually spotted near waterholes due to water scarcity.
This is also a good time for those seeking tiger sightings.

As per the recent camera trap records there are over 120 tigers in Tadoba National Park.
Tigers are present in the Core, Buffer, and non-tourism zones.
Tadoba is considered the best place in India to experience tigers in their natural habitat.

Tadoba National Park has 19 entry gates.
Moharli Gate is the oldest and offers good connectivity and nearby hotels. Kolara and Navegaon Gates are also popular.
There isn't a "best" gate, as any gate allows access to all zones within the park.
The key to tiger sightings is having an experienced guide and driver, along with a bit of luck.

Chandrapur Railway Station: Closest to Moharli Gate, ideal for those planning safaris from this entry point.
Nagpur Railway Station: Suitable for visitors heading to Kolara or Navegaon Gates. It's also an alternative for reaching Moharli Gate.

Yes, tiger forest safaris are safe to visit if you follow all the guidelines laid by Forest Department.
Always stay inside the safari vehicle and avoid breaking any rules.
Violations can result in heavy fines and potential danger to animals.

Children, including infants, are WELCOMEat Tadoba National Park.
Ensure you take appropriate measures for their comfort, as winters can be very cold and summers very hot.

A maximum of 6 people are allowed per safari Gypsy.
Children aged 6 and above are counted as one adult.
Infants who can sit on a parent's lap do not count toward the 6-person limit.
For groups of 7 or more, an additional Gypsy will need to be booked.

Morning Safari Timing: 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM
Afternoon Safari Timing: 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Night Safari: 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Tadoba offers the highest chances of tiger sightings in India, with 85% to 90% of visitors seeing tigers.
It’s possible to spot up to 12 to 15 tigers in one visit.
Remember, Tadoba Andhari is a natural jungle with no caged animals; sightings are purely a matter of luck.
No one can guarantee animal sightings, including tigers. The experience of the jungle’s beauty is itself rewarding.

Some hotels feature swimming pools but are located farther from the Buffer Zone and safari entry gates.
Consider your priorities; proximity to the jungle or amenities like a swimming pool; when choosing your accommodation.

Winter (November to February): Cool and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C. Ideal for safaris, as animals are more active and visible.
Summer (March to June): Very hot, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C. Tigers and other animals are commonly seen near waterholes due to water scarcity.
Monsoon (July to September): The park may be less accessible due to muddy roads and the chance of wildlife sightings can be lower.
October: Transition period with increasing humidity as the park prepares for the monsoon season.

Credit Cards: No hotels in Tadoba accept credit cards.
ATMs: There are no ATMs in Tadoba.
Cash: Ensure you withdraw enough cash from Nagpur before heading to Tadoba.

Alcohol: Carrying, buying, or selling alcohol is not permitted in Tadoba, as Chandrapur is a dry district.
Available Items: Hotels offer soda, soft drinks, glasses, and snacks.

Jain Food: Available in Tadoba.
Pure Vegetarian Hotels: There are options for vegetarian stays as well.

Safari Booking and Regulations

Safari Permits: Limited daily permits are issued by the Forest Department. Book safari permits well in advance.
No Availability: Once daily permits are sold out; no additional safaris can be booked for that day.
Booking Details: Provide the names and Aadhar cards/ID proofs of all confirmed participants. Ensure to carry the same original IDs for every safari.
Changes/Cancellations: No changes, replacements, or cancellations are allowed once permits are booked. Any modifications will result in a loss of money.

Hotel and Travel Information

Hotel Check-In/Out: Usual hotel check-in is at 1:00PM IST & Check-Out at Noon.
ATMs: There are no ATMs in Tadoba.
Mobile Phones: Not allowed inside the jungle.
Amenities: Most hotels in Moharli, located in the Buffer Zone, lack amenities such as WiFi and swimming pools. Only the Jio network works in Moharli.
Food: Hotels offer limited Indian menu options with fresh food prepared as per orders. The nearest shops are 35 kilometers away.

If you want to come by Flight then You can take a Morning Flight IndiGo 6E 2447 Leaving Pune at 5:40AM from Pune Airport which should reach Nagpur Airport latest by 7:00AM. Please do not take flights which reach Nagpur after 10:00am otherwise you won't be able to do the Afternoon Jungle Safari on the first day in Tadoba. Your First day afternoon safari will be from 2:30PM to 6:30PM. There is only one Flight which comes to Nagpur from Kolkata which is IndiGo 6E 862 (CCU - NAG) Which Leaves from Kolkata Airport at 20:15 and reaches Nagpur at 22:10. So it is advisable that you stay in Nagpur on the first day and start your Tadoba Trip on the next day. If you don’t want to stay in Nagpur one the first day, then you can also come to Tadoba on the same day after arriving at the Airport late at night. Then you can start your Safaris from the next Day Early Morning. It can be Hectic Travel for you but we can provide the best and Trustworthy Drivers for your night journey.
